Project HAWK EYE Launched: Anantnag Police Deploys Multi-Layered Surveillance Grid for Secure Amarnath Yatra 2026
5 Drone Units, 416 CCTV Cameras, Facial Recognition System, 28 Machan Morchas and 22 Sniper Teams Deployed Along Yatra Route
Anantnag, June 25 (KNC): In a significant move to ensure the safe, secure and peaceful conduct of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2026 (SANJY-2026), Anantnag Police on Thursday launched “Project HAWK EYE”, a comprehensive 360-degree surveillance and security initiative designed to maintain round-the-clock vigilance across the entire pilgrimage route.
The initiative combines advanced surveillance technology with strategic deployment of security personnel, creating a robust multi-layered security grid aimed at safeguarding thousands of pilgrims expected to undertake the annual pilgrimage.
As part of the project, Anantnag Police has deployed five drone detachments at key locations to provide continuous aerial surveillance and real-time monitoring of the yatra route. The drone network will enhance situational awareness, enable rapid assessment of emerging situations and facilitate swift response by security forces on the ground.
To further strengthen security arrangements, the police have established 28 strategically located Machan Morchas (elevated observation posts) at vulnerable and sensitive locations, enhancing observation capabilities and area domination. Additionally, 22 specially trained sniper teams have been deployed at designated points to reinforce the overall security architecture and ensure immediate response preparedness in case of any contingency.
In a major technological upgrade, 416 high-resolution CCTV cameras along with a Facial Recognition System (FRS) have been installed at critical points across the yatra route. The surveillance infrastructure will provide uninterrupted real-time monitoring and assist security agencies in identifying suspicious movements or activities, thereby strengthening preventive security measures.
Officials said that through Project HAWK EYE, Anantnag Police has effectively established “eyes in the sky and on the ground,” creating a seamless surveillance network that ensures comprehensive monitoring throughout the pilgrimage. The initiative reflects the force’s commitment to leveraging modern technology and professional policing practices to provide a secure environment for all devotees.
Anantnag Police reiterated its commitment to ensuring the smooth, safe and successful conduct of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2026. The public has been urged to extend full cooperation to security personnel and immediately report any suspicious activity to the nearest police establishment to facilitate prompt action.(KNC)
