NC’s Imran Shah Urges Immediate Relocation of Donipawa Dumping Site, Cites Health Risks
Anantnag, May 07: (JKNN ) National conference (NC) Senior leader and District Vice President Anantnag, Imran Amin Shah, on Wednesday urged the administration to immediately relocate the dumping site near Arpath Nallah at Donipawa in Anantnag, alleging that the unmanaged waste disposal has become a major threat to public health and the environment.
According to Shah, despite repeated appeals seeking relocation of the site and implementation of preventive measures, the concerned authorities have allegedly failed to act. He claimed that the local administration has “turned a blind eye” in an alleged nexus with contractors associated with the Municipal Committee Anantnag and RDD Blocks Anantnag and Achabal.
During his visit to the dumping site, Shah observed that the area has been transformed into a vulnerable waste disposal zone without adequate safeguards or protection of nearby water bodies, even as a large population belonging to economically weaker sections resides nearby.
He said the unchecked dumping has resulted in a growing dog menace and frequent infections, particularly during the summer season, causing immense inconvenience and fear among local residents.
Shah further alleged that waste accumulation has contaminated the waters of Arpath Nallah, posing serious health risks to several downstream habitations that depend on the stream for daily use.
He appealed to the administration to take immediate corrective measures, relocate the dumping site to a safer location, and ensure proper waste management practices to safeguard public health and the environment.
