Private University Proposal for Pulwama Rejected in Assembly
Srinagar, Mar 30 (KNC): The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Monday rejected the proposed Sheikh-ul-Alam University Bill for Pulwama (Private University Bill No. 9 of 2025), which aimed to establish the region’s first private university.
As per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, The bill was moved in the Assembly by MLA Pulwama Waheed-ur-Rehman Para, who had advocated for the institution as a major step towards expanding higher education opportunities in South Kashmir.
However, the Minister In-charge of Higher Education Minister Sakina Itoo, declined to approve the proposal.
Despite Para’s repeated requests and push for its consideration, the bill failed to secure support in the House.
After the pressure from MLA Parra, National Conference (NC) legislators voted against the bill, leading to its rejection and dismissal in the Assembly. (KNC)
