Jammu Hosts First International Marathon; Kashmir Runners Join as CM Omar Abdullah Leads from Front
Srinagar 29/03/2026 (JKNN) Jammu witnessed a historic moment on Sunday as it hosted its first-ever international marathon, flagged off by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at Maulana Azad Stadium.
The Chief Minister also joined the runners, highlighting the government’s commitment to promoting sports and fitness in the region.
The event drew large participation from across the Union Territory, with a significant number of runners coming from Kashmir, reflecting growing enthusiasm for sports and unity among youth.
Athletes, fitness enthusiasts, and locals actively took part in the marathon, making it a vibrant and energetic event.
Adding to the excitement, noted personalities like Milind Soman and Gul Panag also participated, encouraging wider public involvement.

Organised by the Tourism Department, the marathon is seen as a major step towards boosting sports culture and positioning Jammu as a hub for large-scale sporting events.
The government also reiterated its commitment to strengthening sports infrastructure and hosting more such events in the future.
