Magnitude 5.0 Earthquake Strikes Afghanistan, Tremors Felt in Jammu and Kashmir
Srinagar 28/11/2024/(JKNN) A magnitude 5.0 earthquake jolted Afghanistan on Thursday evening, with tremors experienced across neighboring regions, including parts of Jammu and Kashmir, India. The quake’s epicenter was located in Afghanistan’s mountainous terrain, a region frequently prone to seismic activity.
Residents in Srinagar and other towns in Jammu and Kashmir reported light to moderate shaking, prompting some to evacuate buildings as a precaution. No immediate reports of damage or casualties have surfaced from either Afghanistan or the affected areas in India.
Experts at the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed the quake’s magnitude and depth but reassured the public about the low likelihood of aftershocks or significant structural damage.
