Home Secretary Reviews Security Situation; Separate Meets with CRPF, BSF, JKP Ahead of Joint Session
Jammu, Jan 15 (KNC): Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan on Wednesday held separate high-level meetings with the top leadership of CRPF, BSF and Jammu and Kashmir Police to review the prevailing security scenario in the Union Territory, with focus on anti-terror operations, infiltration attempts and the over-ground worker (OGW) network, sources said.
Official sources told Kashmir News Corner (KNC) that the Home Secretary interacted individually with the chiefs and senior officers of the three forces at the Jammu Convention Centre to take first-hand assessment of the ground situation. CRPF Director General G.P. Singh, BSF Director General Praveen Kumar and J&K Police Director General Nalin Prabhat participated in the respective meetings. The BSF and CRPF chiefs had arrived from New Delhi to attend the review.
Sources said a separate interaction with senior Army officers was also held as part of the security assessment.
A joint security review meeting involving all security and intelligence agencies is scheduled for Wednesday, to be chaired by the Union Home Secretary, before his departure to New Delhi, the sources added.
The discussions during the separate meetings reportedly centred on ongoing counter-terror operations, strengthening of the anti-infiltration grid along the borders and Line of Control, and measures to identify and dismantle OGW networks. Special emphasis was laid on operations in difficult and mountainous terrain.
While the Army continues to guard the Line of Control in districts like Poonch, Rajouri, Kupwara and Baramulla, the BSF is tasked with securing the International Border in Jammu, Samba and Kathua. Meanwhile, joint operations by the Army, CRPF, J&K Police and SOG are underway in several districts, particularly in hilly belts of Doda, Kishtwar, Kathua and Udhampur, where terrorists are believed to be hiding.
Sources said the upcoming joint meeting is expected to finalise a coordinated strategy to intensify operations against terrorists in the hinterland and further plug infiltration routes.
Intelligence agencies have also reportedly flagged concerns over OGW support networks, especially during the harsh winter months, noting that disrupting these networks is critical to neutralising terrorists.
The Home Secretary’s visit comes days after Union Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed the security situation in J&K in New Delhi on January 8, reiterating the need to sustain counter-terror operations and action against terror infrastructure and financing. (KNC)
