Alleged Drug Peddler Booked Under PSA in South Kashmir’s Shopian, lodged in Kot Bhalwal Jail

Shopian, Jan 10, KNT: Police in Zainapora Shopian have booked a man under the Public Safety Act in connection with a narcotics-related case, officials said on Saturday.
The detainee has been identified as Parvaiz Ahmad Ganie, son of Mohammad Ramzan Ganie, an inhabitant of Itoo Mohalla, Zainapora. The police said that the accused was earlier involved in FIR No. 89/2024 registered under Sections 8 and 20 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Zainapora.
The police said that after examining the case records and activities of the accused, the detention was ordered under the Public Safety Act by the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir. The detention order was issued vide Order No. Div. Com-K/04/2026 dated January 9, 2026.
Following the issuance of the order, police completed all legal formalities and shifted the detainee to Kot Bhalwal Jail in Jammu, where he has been lodged for preventive detention.
Police sources said the move was aimed at preventing the individual from engaging in activities considered prejudicial to public order and safety, particularly in relation to drug trafficking and its impact on society.
The police reiterated their commitment to taking strict action against those involved in the narcotics trade and said such measures would continue to safeguard the youth and maintain law and order in the area. [KNT]
