11/10/2024 (JKNN) Srinagar : In recent times, a troubling trend has emerged across Kashmir, where firecrackers are set off during weddings, particularly when the groom arrives and departs late at night.

While traditionally, celebrations are meant to bring joy, this practice has become a major nuisance, causing distress to many residents, especially the sick, elderly, and those with young children.

Residents of Krankshivan Colony and Newlight Colony in Sopore have voiced their concerns regarding this growing trend. While talking to JKNEWS NATION on the phone, several affected residents explained how this new habit of bursting firecrackers late at night has disrupted their lives.

One resident remarked, “It has become common for firecrackers to be set off at odd hours, especially after the wedding functions end late at night.

By then, most people are either asleep or dealing with health problems in their homes.

The noise is unbearable, and it continues to disturb our peace.”

Many families in these colonies, home to several elderly and ailing individuals, are particularly concerned. “There are patients in every home who suffer when these sudden blasts happen,” another resident shared. “My father, who is recovering from surgery, gets startled each time these firecrackers go off. The stress it causes is beyond words.”

This issue is not limited to just these two colonies. Reports of firecracker nuisances have come in from various parts of Kashmir Srinagar Also. Some even point out that these loud fireworks continue well past midnight, adding to the disturbance. “It’s like a race to see who can make the loudest noise. Every wedding is now incomplete without it,” said a resident from another area.

The residents also pointed out that firecrackers pose a significant risk to public safety. “Not only do they cause noise pollution, but there’s always the danger of an accident. Children are often involved in bursting these firecrackers, and it only takes a moment for something to go terribly wrong.”

Speaking further over the phone, residents expressed deep frustration and appealed to the local authorities to intervene. “We are fed up with this, and it seems there’s no one to hear our concerns. It’s high time the authorities take strict action against those responsible for causing such disturbances.”

Many residents have even approached the local administration, urging them to regulate or ban the use of firecrackers, especially during the late hours. However, there has been little to no response. The lack of action has left the people feeling helpless and frustrated.

“This is not just a problem in one locality. This is the situation in almost every part of Kashmir. We’re all facing the same problem. Weddings should be a time of happiness, not distress for the community,” a local added.

As this trend of firecrackers during weddings grows, the residents are left hoping that their appeals will be heard and that necessary steps will be taken to bring peace back to their homes. The residents of Krankshivan Colony, Newlight Colony, and many other areas are united in their plea: the authorities must address this issue before it worsens further.

For now, all eyes are on the local administration to see if concrete measures will be taken to curb this harmful practice.
