Weatherman Predicts Season’s First Heavy Snowfall in Kashmir Valley
Season’s First Snowfall Expected in Second Week of December
Srinagar, Nov 25, KNT: The Kashmir Valley is likely to receive the season’s first significant snowfall in the second week of December, with weather models indicating good snow spells across the region, including Srinagar city and other plains. Forecasters said two to three Western Disturbances are expected to affect Jammu and Kashmir from mid December till the month’s end, though adjustments in the forecast remain possible.
Meanwhile, the Valley continues to reel under an intense cold wave as night temperatures have dropped sharply over the past several days. Many areas recorded sub zero temperatures, leading to frost formation during early morning hours and increased chill in both urban and rural belts.
Officials said the prevailing cold conditions, combined with the upcoming weather systems, point towards a shift to full winter mode across Kashmir. They added that the approaching disturbances are likely to bring widespread snowfall, especially over higher reaches, with chances of snowfall extending to lower elevations once the systems intensify.
The Meteorological Department will issue updated forecasts as the Western Disturbances draw closer. [KNT]
