Pakistan began their three-match ODI series against South Africa with a thrilling two-wicket victory at Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad, marking the return of international cricket to the venue after almost 17 years.
Winning the toss, Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi elected to bowl first. The visitors posted 263 runs in 49.1 overs, with Quinton de Kock (63) and Lhuan-dre Pretorius (57) leading the charge. Pakistan’s bowling attack put up a disciplined performance — Naseem Shah and Abrar Ahmed claimed three wickets each, while Saim Ayub picked up two.
Chasing 264, Pakistan made a steady start as openers Fakhar Zaman (45) and Saim Ayub (39) added crucial runs. Mohammad Rizwan anchored the middle order with 55 runs, and Salman Ali Agha guided the hosts home with a calm and composed 62-run knock under pressure. Despite a late wobble, Pakistan reached the target in 48.4 overs, finishing at 264 for 8 to secure a 1–0 lead in the series.
