5.2 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Kargil, Shakes Ladakh and J&K

Srinagar 14/03/2025 (JKNN) – A powerful 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck Kargil in Ladakh early Friday, with tremors felt across Jammu and Kashmir, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS).

The earthquake occurred at 2:50 AM IST at a depth of 15 km, with coordinates (Lat: 33.37°N, Long: 76.76°E). The tremors startled residents but no immediate reports of damage or casualties have surfaced.

Leh and Ladakh fall under Seismic Zone-IV, making them highly vulnerable to earthquakes due to their location in the tectonically active Himalayan region. Experts warn that such seismic activity is common in the region, emphasizing the need for earthquake preparedness.
