Surat, Mar 6 (JKNN): In a major crackdown on food adulteration, the Food Safety Department in Gujarat seized 1,401 kilograms of suspected adulterated paneer during a raid at a dairy unit in Surat.
Officials said the action was carried out after receiving information about the sale of unsafe dairy products in the city. During the inspection, authorities found that the dairy unit was operating without a valid licence from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), raising serious concerns about hygiene and food safety standards.
The seized paneer has been sent for laboratory testing to determine whether it is adulterated, officials said.
Food safety experts warned that fake or adulterated paneer may contain substances such as starch, detergent, synthetic milk or harmful chemicals used to increase weight or extend shelf life. Consumption of such products can lead to digestive issues and other health problems.
Following the raid, the FSSAI advised consumers to remain cautious while purchasing paneer and suggested buying dairy products only from trusted shops or licensed manufacturers.
Officials also noted that preparing fresh paneer at home using milk and lemon juice or vinegar is one of the safest ways to ensure its quality and safety.
Authorities said the action is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen food safety checks and protect consumers from adulterated food products, officials said. (JKNN)
